What it can look like
Unequal education can include racial discrimination, disability discrimination, harassment that is ignored, unequal access to advanced opportunities, or disciplinary decisions shaped by bias instead of behavior and evidence.
Why it matters
Education affects future opportunities. Unfair treatment at school can change grades, confidence, discipline records, college options, and a student’s sense of whether adults and institutions can be trusted.
Equal does not always mean identical
A student with a disability may need an accommodation to access the same education. Giving a needed accommodation is not “special treatment”; it can be part of making access genuinely equal.
What justice should require
Students should know the rules, be treated consistently, have meaningful access to learning, receive appropriate disability support, and have a clear process for reporting discrimination or harassment.
